"Services for Rebecca E. King, 61, of Tyler TX are scheduled for 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at College Mound United Methodist Church in Terrell, Texas with Rev. Larry Davis officiating.
"Burial will follow in the College Mound Cemetery in Terrell, Texas under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home of Tyler.
"Rebecca died on August 1, 2007 at her home in Tyler TX.
"Rebecca was born on July 23, 1946 in Conway, Arkansas to Luther E. and Mary Jo King. She was a 1964 graduate of John Tyler High School and attended Tyler Junior College. During her high school years, Rebecca was a tri-color and blue ribbon winner in art at the East Texas Fair. She was employed by AT&T for many years, retiring as a marketing executive before returning to Tyler TX ten years ago. She was a member of the Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary.
"Rebecca loved to travel and visited such far-flung places as the Great Wall of China, the Coliseum in Rome, the Berlin Wall, Stonehenge, and the ancient city of Petra in Jordan.
"Rebecca was preceded in death by her father, Luther E. King, and a brother, Gary King.
"Survivors include her mother, Mary Jo King; brother, Charles King and wife, Janie, of Kaufman; sister, Lois McMaster and husband, Charles, of Copperas Cove; and her much-loved nieces and nephews.
"Visitation is scheduled from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., Tyler, Texas 75703.

Becky King, now there was a tower of beauty! I have many fond memories of Becky, but I think my favorite is from our Senior Assembly in the spring of 1964... I don't remember what we called it, but it was sort of based loosely on how our fevered adolescent minds imagined Olympus (or a Roman orgy). I'm sure THAT had the school administration in a sweat! Anyway, since Becky was such a feast for the eyes, we had her costumed (as minimally as we could get away with) like a sexy Vestal Virgin. I asked Becky if she could pick up Mike Young and carry him offstage. She said "SURE", so during the show she grabbed Mike, draped him across her bosom, and loped offstage like a hungry lioness.Mike was grinning like the proverbial clam!!

(James McCoy, email to Jim Connally, 4/28/09):I was so sorry to hear Becky King had passed away. The last time I saw Becky was TJC graduation in 1966. We became very close in art class at JT and at TJC; though we had a personality clash at first. Becky elbowed me in the ribs and nearly body checked me over the stair rail outside Marjorie DeBord's art class at JT. I was a couple inches taller and weighed more than Becky, or I think she would have sent me crashing over the stair rail to the stairs below, books and all, she hit me so hard. I couldn't hit a girl, so we exchanged heated expletives in the busy hallway and both stomped away to our next classes, really "pissed". That broke the ice like a grade school fight on the playground, but she would still occasionally try to push my buttons. Over the years I have fondly thought of Becky every time I saw Brook Shields and wondered where she was and how she was doing. I did a pencil portrait of Becky in Miss DeBord's class and gave it to Becky. Her beauty was easy to capture on paper. I always thought Becky was a better artist than I was. Becky and Miss DeBord said I was the better artist. I wonder if Becky kept that drawing?
I was at her house a couple of times picking her up but never met her parents or any siblings. We went on double dates but never dated each other. Wish I had at least asked her for a real date or to go horseback riding with me. I had only one horse so it was extra cozy and fun riding double; that's why I had a horse. A group of us in Mrs. Dru Bains's art class at TJC, including Becky, ran around together, but I was usually with Mary Jane Wiley from Austin, who was in the same classes. I don't think Becky had a steady then, like she did in high school. Some people thought Becky was wild back then, but she was really a nice person. (If you don't mind having some bruised ribs!) Becky confided to me on a double date when she was 19 that she was still a virgin. I'll bet that any guys who had made the slightest unwanted advances had gotten some sore ribs, or worse. Would love to hear from anyone who knew Becky over the years.

Judy Kay Moores (Watson)
Becky was such a special friend to me. She and I were not close in school, but when she retired and moved back to Tyler, we "bonded". She was an antique dealer and we shared that common bond. We would shop together, share "finds" and enjoyed the hunt. She loved to eat at Joe's on 5th Street. Darwin and I had many meals with her at several of our favorite restraunts. She would come to the house and watch TV with me and we really enjoyed the same things.I will always miss Becky and her sweet disposition.
