Obituary for Charles Edward Jones

Charles Edward Jones, 76, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022, in Tyler. Services will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Basham officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Memorial Park in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Charles was born in Lindale, TX to Emery and Effie Glasscock Jones. He graduated from John Tyler High School and Tyler Junior College before honorably serving in the U.S. Army in Cam Ranh Bay and Danang, Vietnam. He later worked for Kelly Springfield Tyler Tire Plant (Goodyear) as a tire inspector for over 37 years. He was married to his wife, Betty, for 53 years.

Charles lived for the Lord and had a passion for studying and teaching others about Christ. He was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church where he faithfully taught Sunday School for the Great Expectations class for several years. In his younger years, he obtained his pastoral license from Hillcrest Baptist Church and served as a guest pastor for several different churches. Charles was also an avid golfer and even achieved the rare hole-in-one back in the 90s! He also enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, bowling, and photography.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Emery, and his sister, Carol Kindig. He is survived by his loving family including wife, Betty; and children: daughter, Janice Lampin and husband Jeremy, daughter, Jacinda Morris and husband Daniel; grandchildren, Jordan and Jakob Lampin; mother, Effie Jones; brother, Kenneth Jones; sister, Rosemary Gregg; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family expresses their thanks to all staff at Waterton Healthcare and Rehabilitation and Solaris Hospice for their excellent care and sincere concern for Charles and his family.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
