Born: April 9, 1946 in Joliet, Illinois;  Died: December 4, 2017 in South Padre Island, TX

Paul Jay Gambrel of South Padre Island, Texas passed away on December 4, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Paul was born April 9, 1946 in Joliet, Illinois to Alma Bernice Crews Gambrel and Leo H. Gambrel.

Paul graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in 1971. He earned his Masters in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Texas in 1977. Paul honorably served his country in Vietnam after high school. He retired as City Planner of Round Rock, Texas where he forged lifelong friendships. Paul spent many years in the Austin area where he enjoyed the warm climate and treasured his friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his son, Brett McConville Gambrel; his partner, Emmy Bullock; stepmother, Violet Gambrel; sister, Linda (James) Gambrel Hart; stepsister and stepbrother, Debra Lindstrom and Donald (Lorraine) Lindstrom and their families; and nephews, Justin (Lauren) Hart and Nicholas Hart.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Roger Kent Gambrel; and his brother-in-law, James P. Hart.

Paul showed us how to have dignity, grace, strength and courage. Those of us who were blessed with Paul's love and friendship are thankful for that privilege.
