Walt Chatham

Born: Dec. 11, 1946; Died: June 5, 2021

Placer County Sheriff's Office:

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of retired Placer County Sheriff’s Deputy Walt Chatham.

Walt began his career at the sheriff’s office in 1976, where he served the Placer County community for nearly a decade. He briefly left the agency, but returned in 1987. During the course of Walt’s career, he held various positions within corrections and patrol. Walt was an FTO and a hostage negotiator. His passion for kids also allowed him to serve as a D.A.R.E. officer and S.R.O. When he wasn't assigned to the schools, he worked Marine Patrol (Marine 1). During overtime opportunities, Walt also served as a bailiff in the courts. Walt was a decorated deputy; he was awarded the Gold Medal of Valor in 1992 and the Silver Medal of Valor in 1989. He retired from PCSO in 2007.

Walt leaves behind his wife, Connie, of 38 years and his three children, Shannon, Ginny, and Cody.

Walt was the best friend I had in high school. He made my time at JTHS the best that I could imagine. I talked to him over the years (even though we lived thousands of miles apart). He was always a bright star in this world. I will always miss him, and regret not spending more time visiting with him while that was possible.R.I.P. Walt, (my brother from a different mother). I will see you again in the next life.
